Jelly beans are just like people.  You can't determine what is on the inside by simply looking at the outside.  It reminds us to experience people on at a time and enjoy their unique qualities. - Diversity Beans Motto

*~
It takes 7 to 21 days to make a jelly bean.

*~ While no one really knows the origin of jelly beans, they may be a descendant of Turkish Delight which were popular in biblical times.

*~ They use a process called “panning” which creates the hard outer shell while preserving the gooey middle.

*~  There are 130 calories and 37 grams of sugar in one serving of jelly beans which equals about 35 beans.

*~ April 22 and July 24th are National Jelly Bean Day.

*~ Most jelly bean assortments include eight flavors.

*~ The first appearance of what would become the modern day jelly bean was promoted to Union Soldiers during the Civil War.

*~ In the 1910s and early 1920s, the word “jellybean” referred to a young man who put a lot of great effort in to dressing stylishly.

*~ They were the first candy to be sold by weight rather than by piece.  They were originally sold by color and people would buy a bag of red or a bag of green.

*~ Each year in the U.S, there are 16 billion jelly beans manufactured just for Easter.  This is enough to circle the Earth more than 3 times if they were laid end to end.

*~ Very Cherry Jelly Belly remained the most popular flavor of Jelly Belly beans for two decades until 1998, when Buttered Popcorn moved into first place. In 2003 Very Cherry moved back into top position by a mere 8 million beans.

*~ They were President Reagan’s favorite candy and he used them to help him quit smoking when he was the governor of California. As part of his first inauguration in 1981, 7,000 pounds of jelly beans were ordered and distributed. A portrait of President Ronald Reagan made from 10,000 Jelly Belly beans hangs in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.

*~ Jelly Belly jelly beans became the first jelly beans in space when they traveled aboard the 1983 Challenger Space Shuttle.

*~ A series of Harry Potter jellybeans featured flavors like dirt, earwax, pepper, and vomit. Mmmm.
